Dali--Lijiang Expressway is scheduled to be open to traffic on Dec 30 after four years’ construction.
After the construction completion, drivers shall pay tolls in following 30 years which are higher than toll fees paid on Kunming--Dali Expressway, said the road construction directorate.
The expressway is 257 kilometers long. Length of tunnels on the expressway covers nearly 30 percent of its total length. Some tunnels, such as Shuanglong Tunnel, are more than 3,000 meters long. And Baiyu Bridge is the highest bridge connecting the two tourist destinations.
Riding on the road is quite comfortable for both drivers and travelers since vertical height within every 100 meters is lower than 3 meters.
In chilly winter, some sections of the road may be icy, such as the 6-kilometer-long section from Wase to Shuanglang. It is not only a long and steep downgrade section, but also is designed with a viewing deck of Er’hai Lake nearby. Some tourists may park cars beside the road and cross the expressway to view the scenery of the lake on the deck.
As trucks may spay water when running down the slope, the road is likely to be icy when weather temperature drops. Drivers and travelers should pay attention to this section to keep safety and security.
The speed limit for most vehicles is below 100 Km/hr, and for some trucks is below 80 Km/hr.
