The production of cymbidium hybrids in Yunnan has increased to over 3 million pots in 2013, amounting to 86% of the national market in China. It has created new historical record, according to industry experts.
Production of cymbidium hybrids in the whole nation reached over 3.4 million pots this year. Yunnan's production accounted for 86%, with a year-on-year growth of 25%. Averagely, over 10 of Yunnan's planting companies in the country grew above 80,000 pots per year.
All over the country, totally more than 70 planting companies grew cymbidium hybrids. They are separately from Guangdong, Sichuan, Yunnan and other provinces.
"Although production yield of the cymbidium hybrids had increased largely, price of the breeds in the markets dropped down evidently. Future development of the breeds is not so promising as it was before, " Yang Xiaojun, a representative from Sichuan Yongye Agricultural Science and Technology said.
Another businessman Zhang Huayou from Yunnan Yibiyuan Agricultural Science and Technology Company, the managing director of the company also proved price reduction tendency of the cymbidium hybrids. "At the same time last year, we have received orders of more than 40 thousand pots. This year, we only sold less than 10 thousand pots." Zhang said, government used to book the cymbidium hybrids from all the planting companies, but due to the austerity policy implemented in the country this year, many sales agencies just looked on the market changes and have not bought any pot yet.
It is predicted that wholesale price of some breeds of cymbidium hybrids will be around 120-180 yuan per pot, while each pot of the flower in the past was around 300-400 yuan per pot.
Yu Xingwei, the director of Yunnan Provincial Flowers Technology Promotion Center, said the year of 2013 is doomed to be a turning point to some flower planting companies. "However, price of the cymbidium hybrid that decreased down may facilitate more people to buy the flower, thus providing more opportunities for Yunnan's companies to occupy bigger markets in the country." Yu analyzed.
He thinks that cymbidium hybrid may still be the most competitive breed among Yunnan flower breeds in following years, and also be the main force for the national flower market.
