The opening ceremony of the 13th Asia Arts Festival (AAF) was held on November 18 in Kunming.
With the theme of "Asian Charm, Chinese Culture, Colorful Yunnan, and Beautiful Spring City", the festival aims to promote cultural exchanges among Asian countries.
Officials and representatives from China, North Korea, Cambodia, Vietnam, Armenia, Nepal, International Federation of Library Associations and other international organizations were invited to attend the opening ceremony.
Li Jiheng, the governor of Yunnan, said on the opening ceremony that the festival has become an important platform to showcase the splendid Asian artworks, enrich people’s lives, and promote cultural exchanges and cooperation among Asian countries.
A total of 15 high-level art troupes from 11 countries gave performances in the opening ceremony.
The 5-day festival will also include a lot of theatrical shows, exhibitions and two forums – the 1st Asian Chief Librarians’ Forum and the 2nd Asian Cultural Forum. It will end on November 22, 2013.
AAF is the first regional international arts festival approved by the State Council and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China.
Since its inception in Beijing in 1998, 12 sessions have been held in Hangzhou, Changchun, Chongqing and so on. So far, it has attracted nearly 300 artistic groups from 26 Asian countries and about 10 million ordinary people. (Editors: Ryan Li, Tracy)
