The Long-Drum Dance
The North Korean State National Art Troupe, was established in 1947, has over 400 performers and staff. With the principle of inheriting the time-honored national and cultural heritage and traditions of the Korean people and produce and perform traditional classics and spectacular musical and dance works, it has trained a large number of artists, actors and actress or those who are with merit achievement over the years.
In early years of its inception, the art troupe produced and performed national classics such as opera the Legend of Shim Cheong and the Legend of Jang Hwa Hong Ryeon. In the 1970s and 1980s, it produced and performed revolutionary opera Speak, Jungle and the Song of Mountain Kumgang, as well as the world-renowned national opera the Legend of Chun Hyang and other operas and musical and dance works. The art troupe has travelled to over 100 countries and won a large number of awards at international art festivals and art contests over six decades.
The performing troupe for the13th AAF from DPRK is composed of the most outstanding artists from the North Korean State National Art Troupe, and many of them are top artists in the country, like Artist of the People, Actor or Actress of the People and Actor or Actress awarded by their government for merit achievement.
As the only art troupe performing at the opening ceremony of the DPRK Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo in 2010, the North Korean State National Art Troupe will amaze the world with classics of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Korean nation, simple magnificence and unmatched exquisiteness.
