The first 4G experience program in the province was launched by the China Mobile Yunnan Branch in No.5 buses in Kunming yesterday(Oct. 29).

The 4G network is estimated to cover within the second ring in Kunming by November 15, and to cover the province by December 31 in this year.

Passengers are free to enjoy the new 4G network when riding the No.5 buses from now until December 31, 2013. TD-LTE 4G smart phone, WiFi-enabled laptop, IPAD and other terminal equipments are all available.

With the wireless network, passengers can start their 4G experience after searching and connecting the“CMCC-4G” network signal, and the password is not required.

4G network adopts the new generation of mobile communication technology, which has independent intellectual property right in our country. Theoretically speaking, the highest download speed is able to exceed 100 MB per second. The speed of 4G network is said to be 2000 times faster than that of dial-up, and 10 times faster than that of 3G network.

Based on a journalist’s personal test on No.5 bus yesterday, a 260M video took about 10 minutes to be uploaded with an average upload speed of 400K per second, and a over 300M video merely took 3 minutes to be downloaded.

According to a principal of China Mobile Yunnan Branch, the company has set up a maximum limit to the numbers of connecting devices, in order to ensure the network speed of each user. A maximum of 20 users can access to the network simultaneously. Devices that exceed the maximum number may be unable to access to the wireless network.

“Network covering buses is a general trend.” a principal of Kunming bus group said. Buses in Kunming are to improve the service quality by proving mobile network. Henceforth, all buses in Kunming will be covered by mobile network step by step, after the trial implementation on No.5 buses.

At present, Chenggong university town has been covered by 4G network. Forty 4G experience lounges have been established in counties and districts of Kunming.

Even though residents look forward to the coverage of 4G network in Kunming, they still hold a wait-and-see attitude. Charging standard may be the most concerned question. Dai, a local resident, said, she will not use the new 4G network immediately as not sure if it charges too high.
