Yunnan makes breakthrough in prospecting overseas

Yunnan has made breakthrough in prospecting in foreign countries. The province has prospected a ultra-large mineral deposit in Myanmar, three large mineral deposits in Cambodia, two middle-sized ones in Laos and a small one in Indonesia.

The nickel metal in Tagaung Taung, Myanmar, is as much as 680,000 tons. A smelting plant with an annual nickle output of 22,000 tons has been completed, which was jointly sponsored by China Non-Ferrous Metals Mining Corporation and Taiyuan Iron & Steel (Group) Co., Ltd with an investment of 850 million dollars. It has been the largest Chinese mining project in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Four nickle mineral deposits were also prospected in Indonesia.

Yunnan Provincial Geology Bureau of nonferrous has cooperated with an Indonesia-based group to prospect nickel laterite ores 6.2101 million tones and 100 million tones of iron ores. This Indonesia company schedules to invest about 50 million yuan in two projects of Kunming.(Editor:Lynn)
