The Helongtan Park in Kunming has been known for the Muddy-water Pond and Clear -water Pond that are connected by a stone bridge in one lake. The water colors in both ponds were found interchanged on the afternoon of August 13, namely, the used muddy water became clear, while the clear water in another pond was seen muddy.

Fishes were swimming in the former muddy water pond, lying on the left of the bridge. An aged woman said that maybe the color changes in the lake occurred as it rained on August 13.

Workers at the park could not explain the visual color changes right now.

Background Reading:

The depth of water in the Muddy-water Pond was 50cm and it covers an area of 2,600 square meters. The Clear-water Pond covers 600 square meters in total. Its average depth is 7 meter. The deepest water in the lake is 11 meters. The obvious distinction can be noticed on the water colors. Since the water is spilling out of bottom of the deeper spring, it looks lighter and clearer. And the water in the shallow pond looks muddy and dark because sometimes the muddy water inflows into the pond from the nearby mountain slops.
