Jizu Mountain, located in Bingchuan County on Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, is a well-known Buddhism mountain in China.

Bingchuan is near Eryuan County on the west, Heqing County on the north. Grand and magnificent, the mountain boasts its peak, Tianzhu Mountain with an elevation of 3,248 meters. Mounting on it, people can see the sunrise on the east, floating clouds on the south, Cangshan Mountain on the west and Jade Dragon Snow Mountain on the north, which are named “four wonders seen from the mountain top”.

About 86 kilometers from the ancient town of Dali, it is about 410 kilometers from Kunming, capital city of Yunnan Province. Covering a land of 2,822 hectares, it is in a shape of rooster’s foot, with three long mountain ranges in the front, one on the back. Thus, it is named Jizu which means chicken’s foot literally.

The forest on the mountain is luxuriant with thick bamboos. A hut was built during Shuhan Dynasty (221--263) and was extended during Tang Dynasty(618-907), attaining prosperity in Ming and Qing Dynasties(1368--1912). There were about one thousand monks in the temple during the two dynasties. Many temples were destroyed later, the existing temples are Zhusheng Temple, Jinding Temple and Lengyan Tower.

It enjoys great prestige in South Asia and Southeast Asia, and shares the same fame with Wutai Mountain, Ermei Mountain, Putuo Mountain and Jiuhua Mountain in China. The mountain is a birthplace for Zen Buddhism. The kasaya of Kasyapa, a disciple of Sakyamuni, has been placed in the temple, which has laid foundation of the elevated position among Buddhists.

The mountain is magnificent, perilous, beautiful and serene, and thus is called "buddhist town on a mountain with a spirit".

Situated in valley basin, it is hot and dry all the year round. It is best time for traveling in four seasons.
