Pu'er Border Trade Fair to kick off in December

Pu'er Border Trade Fair is scheduled to be held from Dec 14 to 16 in Menglian County of Pu'er City, Yunnan province.

The fair will attract traders from Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, France, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. According to the organizer, 700 indoor booths have been set up at a 6,000-square -meter exhibition hall.

Exhibits will include: jewelries, root carvings, leathers, fragrant rice, daily necessities, coffee and food.

Vice mayor of Pu'er said that Menglian (meaning "finding a good place" in Dai language), is China's nearest place to Southeast Asia, even Indian Ocean. The Menglian Port is 262 kilometers away from Kengtung, a town in Shan State, eastern Myanmar, and 310 kilometers away from Mandalay.

Moreover, the construction of Menglian Border Economic Cooperation Zone has been launched this year, with a total investment of 100 billion yuan. The zone covers an area of 243 square meters.

Located in Jiangcheng County, southeast Pu'er City, Mengkang Port has been approved by the State Council to open. It is the most convenient port to Phongsaly, Oudomxay and Luang Prabang in Laos.(Editors: Ryan Li, Minnie Mao)
