The 1st China Jingshajiang River Stone Art Fair will be held in Shuifu County of Zhaotong City, southwest China’s Yunnan province, from Jun 14 to 22. Stone sculpture and collection have a long history in China, and these stones are called "qishi" in Chinese, literally translated as “rare stone."

A plenty of rare stones, jades, stone sculptures, bonsai, embroideries and ceramic products will be on display in Shuifu County during the 9-day fair. In addition, a culture forum of the rare stone industry and a series of boutique auctions will also be held.

Stone sculpture and collection can be traced back to more than 3,000 years ago and has long been popular among high-brow Chinese. It is believed that they are well suited to Chinese aesthetics: the beauty of nature itself.

Located in northeast Yunnan on the lower reaches of Jinshajiang River, Zhaotong is known as “the North Gate of Yunnan”. The city covers an area of 23,000 square kilometers, with a population of 5.87 million. Shuifu County, located in the most northern region of Yunnan, border on Sichuan Province, is rich in rare stones, which has been named “the hometown of ornamental stone in China”. Moreover, the county boasts the biggest natural and ecological open-air spa in China and even in Asia.

Taking a train from Kunming to Shuifu is the most economical and practical way. Besides, you can reach there by plane or take a long-distance bus. Zhaotong is more than 400 kilometers away from Kunming.(Editor: Ryan Li)
