By : InKunming | Published: 2012-May-8

On June 28, 2012, Kunming's new airport, Changshui International Airport, will be open to passengers. The new airport will have two runways long enough to handle the largest passenger airliners operating today.

Anyway, getting to and from the new airports may be confusing for first-time visitors to Kunming. You have many choices: express buses, subway, taxis, and even self driving. This page may help you find an option.

Express buses

The new airport is especially well connected with public transportation. There are three express bus routes connecting the main urban areas of Kunming, even covering the Northern Urban Area, which will be launched on June 1st, 2012. More details are as follows:

The express bus No.1: Take the one-way airport bus starting from Xiyi Hotel (西驿酒店,formerly known as Nanjiang Hotel 南疆宾馆) at Xiaoximen (小西门) to the Changshui International Airport, stopover at the Xinyin Residence Community (新迎小区).

The express bus No.2: Take the one-way airport bus starting from Kunming Wujiaba Airport to the new airport, stopover at Kunming Railway Station and Rosy Road Century Hotel (佳路达酒店) on south ring road.

The express bus No.3: Take the round-trip airport bus starting from the Changshui International Airport to Linyu Road (霖雨路) in the north urban district of Kunming, stopover at Kunming Expo Garden and the Beichen Fortune Center (北辰财富中心).

Service time: 5:00-22:00

Weekday schedule: Daytime frequency averages 20-30 minutes, and during peak hours, it is is expected to be reduced to every 5-10 minutes.

Ticket fare for airport express line is 20 yuan per person during the trial period.

Taxi service or self-driving

Generally, travel time between the airports and downtown Kunming by taxi or car is 40-50 minutes. You'd better consider a few extra minutes in case of heavy traffic, especially during rush hours, peak holiday travel times.

Taxi service, except at peak travel hours, generally seems to be the easiest way to get to and from the airports, although it can be the most expensive one. A one-way fare may exceed 80 yuan from downtown Kunming to the new airport. Tip is not included!

Airport metro line

An 18-kilometers airport metro line (Eastern Bus Terminal- Dabanqiao Starion- Airport Station A- Airport Station B) has been completed and is expected to be in service on June 28. A one-way trip will take 20 minutes from the new airport to the city's heart. The train itself comes every 25 minutes during the daytime, with a design speed of 100 km/hr.(Editors:Minnie Mao, Ryan Li)
