Yunnan’s first state-level demonstration zone focusing on quality and safety of agricultural product exports has passed evaluation tests, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) said on Thursday.

The zone was built in Bingchuan County, in the Dali Bai autonomous prefecture, Yunnan province, covering a total area of 223,800mu. It has already attracted 26 agricultural enterprises, including vegetable processing and fruit packing, as well as 50,000 households of farmers.

According to AQSIQ statistics, Binchuan's agricultural exports have reached 36.3836 million U.S. dollars, accounting for 48 percent of Dali's total exports in 2010.

In the first three quarters of 2011, the county achieved 41.84 million U.S. dollars in foreign trade.

The quality and safety of food is a major benchmark of the economic development and people's living conditions of a country. The local government has always attached great importance to agricultural quality and safety.

Moreover, to ensure agricultural products’ safety, Yunnan has taken many measures into effects, including: 1) upgrading the supervisory system and mechanism; 2) strengthening legislation and the setting of relevant standards; 3) carrying out strict quality control regarding agricultural products.
