Construction of ASEAN International Book Town starts

The construction of ASEAN International Book Town has started in Kunming since November 2.

The Book Town will be built into an international book center focus on South and Southeast Asia. It will be one of the 10 cultural landmarks in Yunnan. The center will cover digital publishing, cartoon industry, logistics and exchanging of international cultures. The traffic facilities and residential conditions will be improved around the Book Town. It will be a base for developing cultural creative industry.

The Book Town is schemed to be built next to Dade Temple Twin Pagodas Park. The rebuilding of Dade Temple Twin Pagodas Park has also started since November 2.

The rebuilding of Dade Temple Twin Pagodas Park will promote the development of cultural industry. Residents can enjoy themselves in the park. The two pagodas are also proves of Kunming’s ancient civilization.

Located on Zubian (祖遍) Mountain, Huashan East Road, Wuhua District, Kunming, Dade Temple Twin Pagodas Park and ASEAN International Book Town cover 98.1 mu. The park covers 30 mu and about 5 billion yuan will be invested for its construction. The two projects are expected to be completed in 2014.

Dade Temple Twin Pagodas symbolize the city’s ancient civilization. The pagodas were built in 1484. The 2 pagodas are 22.5 meters high. The distance between the 2 pagodas is 27 meters. The pagodas have been listed in “10 scenes of Kunming” during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Since 1983, the 2 pagodas have been listed in municipal level protected cultural relics.
