A former prefecture governor in Yunnan Province, who owned more than 20 properties including six in Australia, was expelled on Saturday from the national legislature for serious violation of law and discipline.

Yang Hongwei, 48, former governor of Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Region of Yunnan Province, had been expelled from the Communist Party of China after investigations had linked him to bribery, drug abuse, dereliction of duty, as well as living a "lax lifestyle."

He was removed from the post of Chuxiong's governor in April this year.
