Yunnan boxer takes world crown

Li Wenyang, a 24-year-old Yunnan boxer has taken the world crown in the lightweight boxing champions of Universal Boxing Organization(UBO) on October 25. Li becomes the first Chinese man to crown the World Championship Professional Boxing.

The ranking tournament of International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Championship of (UBO) was held at Yiliang County, Zhaotong city in Yunnan in the evening of October 25. Li Wenyang brought down his Thailand opponent after 12 rounds.

Ten boxers from Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Thailand have participated in contend this year and over 5000 have watched the match.

Li Wenyang is now ranked fourth in Asia and first in China by the World Boxing Organization.

By now, Yunnan has produced two world champion boxers. Another Yunnan native Xiong Chaozhong (熊朝忠) is among the top ten boxers by the International Boxing Federation. (Editor:Minnie Mao)
