Hekou County rallies historical cultural relics for tourism

Hekou County is striving for the historical and cultural tourism development.

For most visitors who have been Hekou County, their deepest impression may be the humid and hot weather, the geographic location next to Vietnam and the tender Vietnam women. As an importing gate connecting China and countries in Malay Peninsula and South Asia, the frontier county plays a significant role in Yunnan.

On the morning of April 30, 1908, Hekou Uprising erupted, which belonged to another armed insurrections against the Qing Dynasty (A.D. 1636—1912) led by Sun Yat-sen who was a Chinese revolutionary and political leader often referred to as the Father of Modern China. Sun played an instrumental role in the eventual collapse of the Qing Dynasty in 1911. Due to s a shortage of food and ammunition, the uprising was short-lived.

The museum in memory of Hekou Uprising is expected to open again in December this year. From 2001 to May 17 in 2008, the museum charged an admission fee of 1.5 yuan, resulting in the average annual income of 200,000 yuan. Though the ticket price was not high, some visitors were still hindered. In 2008, the museum was opened for free and the number of visitors roared to 300,000 a year.

The curator of the museum said that the museum has run for 11 years since it was officially opened in 2001. At present, over 30 pieces of pictures and objects such as guns, cannons are exhibited in the new pavilion of the museum.

Besides, the office for Hekou government in Qing Dynasty is preserved well.

The curator said the maintenance of French floor tiles in these relics of cultural preservation was a big problem. Experts had difficulties in repairing the floor tiles in a foreign firm. Finally, they realized that that kind of floor tile was only made by Vietnamese, so they paid high price to learn the craftsmanship.
