Yunnan Meteorological Observatory has issued an orange-coded heat alert at 9:00, May 19, warning that heat would continue in some parts of Yunnan during the next 24 hours.

The maximum temperature is forecasted to exceed 37 degrees Centigrade in the following parts of Yunnan: north-central of Zhaotong City, northern Kunming, northern Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, eastern Lijiang, southern Yuxi City, and Southern Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture.

The orange level means that temperatures are expected to remain higher than 37 C and sometimes surpass 40 C for at least the next 48 hours.

The high temperature mainly occurs at the river valleys of Jinsha River, northern Kunming. “High temperature in May is normal,” said staff at Yunnan Meteorological Observatory. (Reporter:Hyesung, editor:Minnie Mao)
