Zhuang and Miao people fighting against drought

The worst drought in 100 years has been ravaging Yunnan since last July. Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice premier Hui Liangyu visited Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture to guide drought relief work and offer condolences to the people in ethnic minority areas on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and State Council on February 24. CCTV also gave a live coverage on the drought relief efforts made in Yanshan County of Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture on March 4 when the “two sessions” were held in Beijing.

A total of 1.436 million people have taken part in the drought relief work and 35.8 thousand vehicles have been sent to transport water in Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture since last July. So far, 286 thousand tons of water has been transported to alleviate drinking water problems of 917 thousand people and 510 thousand large livestock. About 1.17 million mu of drought-stricken crops got irrigated and 324.42 million yuan has been used as drought-relief funds.
