Congrats! Two universities of Yunnan listed on Best Global Universities Rankings

[InKunming--YunnanU.S.News & World Report released the 2019 Best Global Universities Rankings lately. The overall rankings encompass the top 1,250 institutions, spread across 75 countries, up from 74 countries last year. There are 161 China’s universities, 130 in the mainland. Among them, two universities of Yunnan are listed. Yunnan University ranks 1070th globally and 97th in China, and Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST) ranks 1226th globally and 126th in China.

U.S. News & World Report is an American media company that is best known today for its influential Best Colleges, which focus specifically on schools' academic research and reputation overall and not on their separate undergraduate or graduate programs.

The indicators and their weights in the ranking formula are listed in the table below.

Yunnan University

As the oldest university in Yunnan province, Yunnan University (YNU) can be regarded as the beautiful name card of Kunming and even Yunnan’s education.

In 1937, Xiong Qinglai, the famous mathematician and educator, became the President of Yunnan University, and employed a large number of scholars to teach in the school, creating the first glorious period in the history of YNU. After years of development, YNU has won numerous honors, and have cultivated generations of outstanding talents for the country.

In addition to the academic atmosphere, YNU also owns breathtaking views. The begonia blooms in spring, and ginkgo turns into yellow in autumn.

Kunming University of Science and Technology

Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST), founded in 1954, has developed into a comprehensive university with emphasis on engineering, management, philosophy, law, literature, art, agriculture, etc..

KUST is also the largest university in Yunnan province with a full range of disciplines, playing a significant role in China’s nonferrous metal industry and regional socio-economic development.

The high employment rate has already become the name card of KUST. It has set up “Confucius institutes” in Laos, Vietnam, Thailand and other countries, and has taken effort in important international cooperations.
